Klein-Aus-Vista in the Namib Desert

Today I once looked into the travel diary of Namibia and came across the entry about the Klein – Aus – Vista – Eagels Nest Chalets. Good memories awoke e.g. from one of the most beautiful accommodations we have ever had. We had booked this trip through the Umfulana travel agency. Already in the travel documents the accommodation was very nicely described as follows: "Where the Huib Plateau rises from the Namib desert emerges lonely and alone the lodge, whose few stone houses and eagle nests are built in the granite rocks". Our very high expectations were exceeded.

Excerpt from my travel diary:

Yesterday we said goodbye to the roadhouse and off we went north to the B4, then further west to Klein Aus. Is next to Aus. I don't know if there is a capital Aus. Klein Aus is a lodge plus campsite. In the middle of nowhere. This is where the diamond restricted area begins, which extends to the coast (120 km west). We live 7 km from the lodge in the Eagels Nest. Our house is called The Rock. It lies on the mountain slope and is built around a huge rock. See photo 1. That means half the rock resides in the room. From the terrace you can see a wide area. You can see horses, ostriches, oryxes, monkeys. A mouse lives right next to the house. It is often mentioned in the guest book. For dinner we drove the 7 km to the lodge last night. We took breakfast for today. Almost forgotten. We raised a cache here last night. From the campsite it was about 45 minutes to the viewpoint. Great view to the west.

Today we drove 120 km to Lüderiz. About 9 km before the city there is a diamond burial town. Today it is a ghost town. In 1956 the last residents moved there. Today it's a museum. Entry ticket, see photo 2. It was very exciting. A tour started at 9:30 a.m. Afterwards you could have a look at the houses all in peace and alone. Most houses no longer have window glass, and many doors are missing. So the sand has spread everywhere in the last 50 years. Some houses are well preserved. The theater with stage and bowling alley - almost unchanged.

On the way back we saw a real sandstorm. Tomorrow we will continue north from small.
