The Sun-Island in Lake Titicaca

Although the sun was scarce on our Copacabana Bolivia boat trip to the "Sun-Island", traveling to the place where, according to legend, Inca mythology began, it was impressive. The Inca Garcilaso de la Vega describes that on the sunny island, siblings Manqu Qhapaq and Mama Uqllu at the ritual stone Titiqaqa emerged from the waters of Lake Titicaca. They are considered Adam and Eve of the Inca culture.

As civilized heroes they brought culture to the savage, barbarous peoples, with Manco introducing techniques of agriculture and Mama Uqllu spinning and weaving. However, the decoration of this legend is doubtful, since the cultures in the Altiplano were already highly civilized for millennia and before the appearance of the Inca.
