At the furthest point of the Lyngen Alps, where the Barents Sea, Ullsfjord and Lyngenfjord meet, the Lyngstuva lighthouse on Sørklubben guards the shipping lanes. The scramble up to the lighthouse is rewarded with a fantastic view.
Surprisingly, the small lighthouse keeper's cottage is open and we can recover briefly from the mountain hike in the living room. We climb back over the rock formations along the coast - not easier either. We see some wrecks and rusted components. The Barents Sea is not without its problems and is also called Devil's Sea, because in some places combinations of rock and algae appear and submerge like heads out of the water in light sea conditions.
This terrified many a sailor and also fooled us on an evening when we had shot many photos of the supposed seals or whales until later the enlargement on the laptop screen revealed the algae/rock combination.
