Olbia is an idyllic city in northeastern Sardinia, whose winding streets contrast beautifully with the inviting harbor promenade. In the bay of Olbia there are nice dream beaches with crystal clear water and sometimes bizarre rock formations. Impressive historical buildings like the former cathedral of San Simplicio from the 3rd century AD point to the important historical past of the island.
We had rented a house in the neighboring hills of Olbi and from there explored the island up to the Emerald Coast. The photos shown come from the following regions:
- Olbia plain
- "Capo d'Orso, the bear rock and symbol of Northern Sardinia,
- "Cala Goloritze" - the most beautiful beach in Sardinia in the municipality of Baunei,
- "Capo Ferro" with its bizarre rock formations and a beautiful lighthouse.
Photos from the Costa Smeralda will appear in a future post. The Emerald Coast is part of the north-eastern coast of Sardinia. In the north this 20 km long section is bordered by Palau and in the south by Olbia. The name comes from the emerald-like color of the water there. [Wikipedia]
